Swiss Army Knives are recognised world wide as quality, well engineered products with unlimited uses.
There are two manufacturers of the Swiss Army Knife, Wenger in the French speaking Jura region & its competitor in the German speaking region of Schwyz. To avoid friction between the two companies, the Swiss government decided in 1908 to award each supplier orders for half of its requirements, a decision that still stands today.
The popularity of the Swiss Army Knives means that there are many imitations. However, only the knives of the two Swiss companies are permitted to have the distinctive Swiss Cross on their handles.
